The EPCOS Group is a leading manufacturer of electronic components, modules and systems headquartered in Munich. With its broad portfolio, EPCOS offers a comprehensive range of products from a single source, and focuses on fast-growing and technologically demanding markets in particular in the areas of information and communication technology, automotive electronics, industrial electronics and consumer electronics. Electronic components are found in every electrical and electronic product and are indispensable for their flawless operation. In fiscal 2008, we were no. 1 worldwide for SAW components, piezo actuators, power capacitors, surge arresters, thermistors and varistors. These products account for 60% of sales. EPCOS has design and manufacturing locations and sales offices in Europe, Asia, and in North and South America.
Singapore was EPCOS' bridgehead to Asia since the early 1970s. Our company, then still a part of Siemens, has been consistently stepping up its presence in the region. EPCOS Singapore has since been playing a pivotal role in the overall business and organisation growth. Having begun here as a sales and marketing office for Asia Pacific, EPCOS Singapore has evolved to become an increasingly important base for EPCOS' SAW filter operations. Today, Singapore is home to our state-of-the-art SAW components plant. It is also the headquarters for our SAW multimedia business and sales and marketing activities in ASEAN including India, Korea, Australia and New Zealand. EPCOS continues to invest in Singapore, a demonstration of our company's confidence in the entrepreneurial dynamism and potential of the country and the Asian region.
